This book is a must read for any one considering having plastic surgery to improve droopy eyelids. The before and after pictures are great and the text itself provides indispensible information for the any question from pre surgical preparation to recovery time. Most importantly, I learned that there are surgeons, trained as ophthalmologists that preform only eyelid surgery. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL! Worst book I've ever puchased
This 10 page board book has no information about how a normal human eye works. It contains only labels of 4 parts of the human eye. The rest of the book is single line descriptions of 4 vision problems. That's ALL that's in this book. This might be appropriate for eye doctors to give out to young patients who need to learn something about the 4 specific vision problems covered in this book (Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Cataract, and Diabetic Retinopathy), but it would probably be inadequate for that since there is only one line about each. The first page also does have one-line descriptions of Myopia, Hyperopia, and corrective lenses for these. This is probably the best page of the 10 in the book (when they say '12 pages' in the description, they are including the front and back covers).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book
An excellent reference book, which I have often used due to a variety of medical conditions with one or both eyes. The reason I have not given it a 5-star rating is that the material is becoming a bit dated.Since its publishing in 1995, huge advances have been made in the treatment of Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD), such as Visudyne photoreactive therapy in 2003, Macugen interocular injections in 2004, and within the last year, Lucentis. Would love to see an updated edition! Again, a very useful guide to your eyes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Information on the proper care of eyesight during reading and computing is missing!
As much as 90% of the information you take in from the environment pass through your eyes. Therefore your eyesight plays a really vital role in your information processing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Try elsewhere if you are looking for meaningful information.
I originally purchased this work as a graduate microbiology student interested in seeing what was available for patients to read with trachoma in the United States.I was dismayed and shocked that someone would have to pay almost thirty dollars for the patry and sparse information contained within this work. More information can be easily found online and better advice concerning ocular Chlamydia trachomatis infections is available from your doctor's office. In all honesty, the "Official Patient's Sourcebook on Trachoma" has no merits and should not be purchased. I only hope that anyone interested in learning about trachoma reads this review prior to considering to purchase this work (if it can even be called that). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars If you're looking for info on LASIK, look elsewhere
I did some web surfing while trying to find information about getting LASIK done. One of the "eye mills" suggested another book, andthen I found Beyond Glasses! through the Amazon.com search engine. I likedthe reviews I saw to that point, by both editors and customers, so Idecided to give it a try.4-0 out of 5 stars How to SEE clearly through all the hype.
One of the mandatory books one should read in their research BEFORE theyvisit the doctor. Without Scaring people off -Please don't assume thedoctor knows what's best for YOU. Research! I read one of the two versionsof this book before I had PRK and found it to be quite helpful inexplaining all the technical information, but from a layman's point ofview. In my research, I was very surprised at how certain physician'sactually push particular procedures on patients. Investigate what's goodfor you, NOT the physician!

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Infomation About Eye Laser Surgery
I am scheduled for eye laser surgery on January 6, 2000.While I am excited about this prospect I am not very well informed!I felt that I needed more information to feel prepared and to understand the entireprocedure.A magazine ran an ad for the book BEYOND GLASSES!THE CONSUMER'SGUIDE TO LASER VISION CORRECTION which I ordered. It was well worht themoney!I found the answers to the questions I had in this book.Anyconsumer interested in laser correction surgery for his/her eyes shouldpurchase this book.It is well worth the money!Plus the author has hadthe surgery, herself, and understands what someone considering the surgeryneeds to know. She has researched this subject well! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good basic information but not really up to date for 2002
I bought this book because I am going to have LASIK surgery the end of the month at the same place that sponsors the book (TLC).With the technology changing all the time, some of the stuff in this book is a bit out of date, but pretty accurate with what is going to be done.I would recommend a revision come out within the next couple months because of the leaps and bounds the procedure has had since the book was published.Don't get me wrong...this is an excellent start to find out more about LASIK and just don't depend on the Internet for the rest of your research.

2-0 out of 5 stars Describes the Procedure Well, Downplays the Risks
The book gives a very detailed description of the procedureitself and many details surrounding it which is useful for anyoneconsidering the surgery. Unfortunately this can't make up for the factthat it downplays the risks, dismissing stories of bad outcomes asmostly some type of "urban legend". Also the author hasworked for one of the higher priced Laser Eye chains and many of theirstaff are quoted in the book. I felt this displayed a subtle biastowards them...

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific book
I am very puzzled by the previous review. I bought the book exactly for the same reasons and it explained everything carefully. More important, it described options that I did not realize existed. I originally had the 3rd edtion and was so impressed with it, that I bought the 4th. However, the difference between the two is very little, so buy the cheaper for the two. I have not seen the the 1st and the 2nd edition so I cannot comment on them.

1-0 out of 5 stars I found the book to fall short of being usefull
I was looking for a book that explains the technical differences in various types of lenses. Multifocal, bifocal, aspherical, high index, polycarb, plastic, glass, abbe numbers etc. How does one choose and whatare the advantages and disadvantages of each type and manufacturers design.I was also interested in the differences in contacts. Torics, bifocals, etcetc. The book is technically lame. It was no help whatsoever. Ask youroptometrist was the redcomendation. I learned nothing from this book!Nothing! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very well researched !
The title incluudes the words"reversing " and preventingmacular degeneration and headlines "overcoming visionloss", but inside says macular degeneration is not reversable.I beg to differ as there is nomention of the benefits of chelation therapy for the eyes. There is muchto be said for chelation therapy as a treatment ,as the build-up ofdeposits behind the macula is one of the most direct causes of maculardegeneration. Theonly known way to remove the deposits and clear out thecirculatory system at the backof the eye is CHELATION THERAPY. How can onepresent himself as an "expert" withouthaving any mention of thstypeof treatment? To be sure, diet, smoking and lifestyle are importantand these are well covered, but in my opinion, the doctor needs to do somemore homework.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Book's Title is Misleading
When I saw the title "See Again" and read the two onling customer reviews of this book I became very excited that at last there was a way to help my 85 year old mother with macular degeneration see again. But, this book is not about reversing macular degeneration for those whohave it now, as it is billed. It presents the view that maculardegeneration can be prevented through nutrition, exercise and the use ofprotective eyeware.A great many pages are devoted to discussingvegetables, fruits, food preparation and recipes. Nowhere does the bookdemonstrated that sight will be returned through a specialized diet. Mymother and I are very disappointed that it offers no new information orhope on reversing the disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, well written and easy to follow
I wish I had read this book 20 years ago so I could have prevented the vision loss which is making it hard to read and write. At least I now knowwhat to do.The four step program is easy to follow, and I have given mychildren a copy so that they can get started early on a program to preventmacular degeneration.Read more
