The best book on health care I have ever read
This is a book highly relevant to all people having a problem with their vision, even if it's just nearsightedness, and also for all others caring about their eyes and their vision too. The book is excellent in many ways, but what makes it unique, is that the advice comes from a doctor who is an authority in both ophthalmology and nutrition. The nutritional information will be especially helpful to my mother, who is a diabetic. For example, I learned how diabetics can often clear up leakages in their retinas and avoid laser surgery -- something I had not read anywhere else. Learning how to prevent macular degeneration and cataracts will also be very helpful to her. And as for myself, I was thinking about having LASIK done to correct my nearsightedness, but I will not now that I know what problems might result in the future. And since the book is dealing with almost all topics concerning the eye, most people will get an accurate answer to what they are are concerned about. The book is also easy and entertaining to read, and this combined with knowing that Dr. Lavine has your best interests at heart makes this book very special and absolutely worthwhile reading and getting back to over and over again. I just wish we had Dr. Lavine here in Sweden, but having his book is the next best thing!! ... Read more

Incredibly helpful and well written
I highly recommend this book to all parents.Not every doctor is up on the latest methods and treatments on treating eye problems so you as the parent should be.Get this book and find the best pediatric ophthalmologist (not an optometrist) in your area and your child will be in the best hands, an educated parent and a trained MD.

Does Your Child Really Need Glasses?
This book is fine if you are intersted in very basic imformation about eye care.If you child is experiencing problems do not let this be your only resource.My six year old was just diagnosed with amblyopia (lazy eye)and I have done a lot of research.This books gives some very bad and possibly dangerous advice about treating amblyopia with an eye patch. Please double check any of the advice this book provides before you start treating your child's eye problems.

This book is destined to be a "must have" for all parents. Very useful holistic manual for better vision
I must disagree with some of the previous reviewers who have said this book is a "farce."It is not a farce.It is based on a wide variety of vision improvement techniques, including the Bates method, behavioral optometry, yoga, color therapy, acupressure, massage, etc.It presents many different types of "vision training," eye exercises, and other therapies.I do think it could be better organized. The Bates Method A complete guide to improving eysight natur
This book is disappointing. The title IS misleading. excellent introduction to the Bates Method
This is an excellent introductory text to the Bates Method. The author, Peter Mansfield, goes over the behavior of the eye and various visual problems (a pretty standard practice in Bates books), then he goes over what the Bates Method is and isn't. Misleading title
This book purports to be a complete guide to improving your eyesight, but turns out to be little more than a commercial for practicioners of the Bates method.The author is one of these, and gives some cases where he was successful, but there is little info of practical use in improving your eyesight by exercises and whatever mental shenanigans the author discusses. Totally useless
Book was written in 1997.VERY scant information on LASIK

A very informative book.
I read this book while in Calgary for my laser surgery. I found it to be an excellent source of information and it also helped me to know what questions to ask my surgeon. That surgeon, coincidentaly turned out to bethe author of the book. (I didn't know it when I was reading it) p.s. Thatwas 7/99I now see 20/20 !!!
