A reliable and clearly-written guide for eldercare givers
This book is a lifesaver.I've been providing eldercare for several months, and I've looked for books to help me deal with a range of caregiving issues.Many books treat the reader like an moron.This onetreats you like an intelligent adult.It starts with an overview ofeldercare, then deals with organizing finances and records, differentoptions for where your elder can live, and legal and social issues.What Iliked best, though, was all the human elements it discussed.I've beenable to get the legal information elsewhere.But only here have I seen areally helpful discussion of how tricky it is to deal with exhaustion,anger, and stress, and especially how to deal with other family members! The definitive reference for family caregivers in Texas
Eldercare in Texas presents the basic information family caregivers need to know to care for their aging spouse, parent or relative.Davis covers legal & financial concerns, housing options and end-of-life issues in a no nonsense way. The glossary is particularly helpful.Her personal anecdotes show the reader she doesn't just write about eldercare, she has lived it.A must read for any family caregiver in Texas.

I am a social worker and work just with Texans. This book is the most resourceful book I have had in years. The elderly in Texas did not know that half of these resources are available to them. I encourage family caregivers to purchase this book.

Informative and Personal
Anne Hendershott, a professor who teaches about the sociology of aging, found herself unprepared for the challenge of caring for a mother-in-law with Alzheimer's. Combining the personal experience of a caregiver, who had a family and career as well, with the knowledge of a professional, this book can be very helpful to others who reluctantly find themselves in the role of caregiver. Practical information and tips from lessons learned in that role are shared along with this personal caregiving journey. A helpful appendix includes facts about organizations and selected Web sites, and a biblographic essay shares information about helpful books....

Just the Facts Please
The first 14 pages were facts about alternatives to nursing homes.It was dry compared to ELDER RAGE.Information was somewhat useful.
