5-0 out of 5 stars Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
To the author, a great big THANK YOU! I have read dozens of books about back pain, been to physiotherapists and doctors, taken medication and tried numerous exercise programs, and nothing worked. However, thanks to this book, I finally have relief from long-term, chronic back pain.(Herniated disk in lower back.)
5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
Great investment for those with back pain.Just from bits and pieces of what I have read and practiced so far, I've been able to recover from a recent back injury in a very short period of time and will hopefully lead to a pain-free back for life.

What I appreciated most about this book was it's balanced approach to treating back
5-0 out of 5 stars My back problems solved
This book is an easy-to-read overview of back problems that actually helped me tremendously! I have been dealing with back pain for the past several years and visited many doctors, specialists and physical therapists as well as trying many of the "alternative" treatments such as massage, herbs, supplements, glucosamine, chiropractors, liniments and yes even drugs such as Vioxx and Celebrex with minor improvement, but never a long-term cure. I was pleased that this book provides many back-strengthening exercises with easy-to-follow photos and directions. I am very glad I read this book and highly recommend it as it has provided me my first long-term relief in years. Happy reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best in the Field
Managing Pain has been a lifesaver for me. The tape is doesn't just generate relaxtion, but also teaches the skills needed to decrease an individuals pain level. It is direct and to the point.Ms. Naparstek's voice creates a feeling of warmth and trust. I would recommend this to anyone undergoing a difficult time with pain-chronic or acute. I have shared this tape with several friends from my pain management group and everyone loves it!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Tape
This is great...the female narrator's voice is soothing andprecise, and the images are relaxing. The only fault I can find with it is that it's sometimes hard to find just the right place on the tape where the spoken introduction and instructions end and the actual relaxation and imagery begin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tape
By far Belleruth's tapes are the best in applying guided imagery to health and healing. Her tapes inspire as they help you focus your mind on healing your body.Highly recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Low Chronic Back Pain sufferers, MUST READ this book
This book opened my eyes to a whole new world of back pain treatment. After 15 years of chronic back pain ranging from mild to incapacitating, I was running out of options.Back bracing, ice, anti-inflamatories, and cortisone shots only left me in worse shape. After reading this book, I had a consultation for Prolotherapy.Immediate relief was forthcoming after the first treatment. After receiving 4 treatments of prolotherapy, I am 90% free of back pain.5-0 out of 5 stars Avoided Spinal Fusion With Prolo-Therapy
Largely as a result of reading this informative book, I undertook prolotherapy for "severe degenerative disc disease" in in the L5-S1 area.It was a last ditch effort to head off a spinal fusion operation.3-0 out of 5 stars Prolo Your Back Pain Away
This book had some valuable information on the subject, however, I was offended and appalled by the religious propaganda and shameless self promotion contained within. It made me wonder how helpful prolotherapy REALLY is, or if the authors are just trying to convince people to get business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These exercises work
Ten years ago I bought the second edition of this book to help me resolve severe back pain. At the time I could not bend over the sink when brushing my teeth without putting my hand on the counter because of the pain in my lower back. I used the exercises every day for about 6 weeks. At the end of that time I was back to jogging and being pain free. The book went onto my bookshelf. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
I absolutely loved Darrell Stoddard's book.He makes complex concepts about Chinesemedicine accessible to the layman. He also has some interesting theories re: the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Absolutely worth your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pain free for sure....
I bought Darrell Stoddard's book "Pain Free for Life" for the same reason that I bought Hulda Regehr Clark's book "The Cure for all Diseases", because I thought that the title was bold and fairly presumptuous. Because of this, it piqued my curiosity and I wanted to see if it could deliver on its seemingly boisterous title. I was pleasantly surprised by the contents and found myself unable to put the book down until I'd read the whole thing. I then went right to the computer and looked up the author's web site (...) and proceeded to go through that quite thoroughly. The web site had little more to offer than the book, other than a lot of fairly impressive testimonials from quite a few Doctors (some very famous ones)and other healthcare professionals and the like... The web site is a fairly rudimentary one, but easily navigable. The book is a good and interesting read and fairly well written for a first try. It has a lot of very interesting information and science-backed theories regarding the origins of pain and disease and suggested methods of dealing with same.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pain Free For Life
I have just finished reading "Pain Free For Life" and was thrilled with the book!I couldn't put it down.I was captivated about the way many of today's diseases, pain, and other ailments were described and how we can prevent them and heal them.Dr. Stoddard wrote in a down-to-earth manner making the information very understandable and most useful.Pain has never been described like this before and it made total sense.I am trying to take more control of my health and "Pain Free For Life" was a wonderful, easy, educational experience.Pain Free For Life gave many every-day examples about how we can alter our habits in such little ways that make BIG differences to ease or delete pain and disease from our lives - common pain and common diseases. This is not brain surgery-type reading. This is real life reading.I highly recommend it.I even got my 72-year old mother to read it and take action.THAT speaks volumes! When you read this book and implement just a few of the very sound concepts that are based on published medical literature, you will feel a positive difference in your life!I have to say that this is one of the best health books that I've ever read.It will be a staple that I'll refer to and share the information for many years to come. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Rhetoric
This book is nothing more than a lengthy brochure written by chiropractors to promote the sale of continuing education seminars to other chiropractors. As one of the prior reviewers stated, there is NO INSTRUCTION on how to provide or perform an "ART" technique. The bulk of the book is simply a review of common repetitive strain injuries and treatment options which are common physical therapy techniques.
5-0 out of 5 stars Smart Alternative
Introduction to probably the most significant advance in body therapies in the last 5o years. The book is a compass to patients with sports injuries and cumulative injuries. A big plus is the exercises and stretches recommendations present throughout the book. It's about time someone puts in a book format for the public an essential guide to the most powerful techniques for injured workers and injured athletes.Job well done.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not an Instruction Manual of Active Release
This is merely an introduction to Active Release Therapy and its potential in the treatment of Repetitive Strain Injuries. There is NO INSTRUCTION on how to apply ART.Consider it promotional material for Dr. Leahy .The bulk of the book is made up of an overview of common Injuries (causes, treatment options, selected exercises and stretches). One has to train and test with the author to become an ART practitioner. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gave Me Some Great Ideas
This book gave me the great idea to work/read while standing up - the top of my dresser is just the right height for that & I'm surprised at how easy and comfortable it is.The premise of the book is that exercise can be incorporated into your everyday routine, once you develop certain habits, and does not have to involve a big disruptive trip to the gym.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Posture Prescription: Top notch book!
Very easy read for a non-fiction book and very good information. It made me very conscious of how my posture was creating my back problems. I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Did the trick for me
Everybody probably has different needs but this book absolutely did it for me.I had neck and upper back pain for 2 and a half years and it was so bad I took ibuprofen every single day for that period and was worried I was going to suffer long-term medication consequences.I saw two chiropractors and a top notch physical therapist, all of whom, combined, were only able to make a small difference in the management of the pain.I started doing the exercises in this book in August of 2004 and by September the pain was about 10% of what it used to be.It's now January 2005 and I have occassional flare-ups, most of which can be managed through a brief run-through of the exercises. After taking ibuprofen every day for 2 and half years straight, I am happy to report that in the past five months I have taken it about 5 or 6 times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Using this book took me from crippled to good as new
Around the time of my pregnancy in 1995 I developed pain throughout my body that eventually reached a point where almost all the activities in life I loved were no longer available, and trying to get well became an obsession.
5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for me!
I had an aching back for about five years, mostly in my lower back and sometines in my mid and upper back. I made the usual rounds between doctors, specialists, chiropractors, accupuncturists, and so on. The pain was always there, sometimes better sometimes worse. I used to wake up in pain and stiff most mornings.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing .Advice possibly damaging.
The author of this book teaches the reader to talk down to their sub-conscious and treat it with disrespect. His advice tells the reader to treat the subconcious as a child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga helped me!
Thank you to Dr. Loren Fishman for this invaluable guide to preventing and curing back pain with yoga. The beauty of this book, unlike many others, is that it actually acknowledges that there are major types of back pain instead of lumping muscle spasm with arthritis or herniated disc, etc. This book respects the differences, and that is common sense, because what's good for back pain in pregnancy is obviously not the same as what will relieve the pain of a herniated disc. Dr. Fishman's approach is clearly safer and more effective.
