5-0 out of 5 stars The reflexology atlas
This is an excellent discription of reflexology. The discriptions are clear and easy to read and easy to understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
Broken down into the most basic principles, reflexology is the practice of dividing the body into zones, which can then be mapped onto hands, feet, head, or ears. So for example if your head is giving you trouble, proper attention to the corresponding point of your big toe will help to restore the area's natural energies, promoting a return to normal health.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, What a Book!
First, the presentation.Large format - 13x10 on glossy paper, card cover.Nice.Flipping through the pages, there are numerous illustrations or photos on just about every page.Closer examination reveals how-to photos and detailed diagrams of the material that is being discussed on each page.

The only pointer I got from this book was that posture and breathing are very important in correcting back and neck problems. These facts reinforced facts already known.Better exercises can be found elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Pilates Prescription for Back Pain
This is a super book.It communicates well and is very effective.I have had chronic back, hip and feet pain for many years. This book is teaching me how to use my body correctly, which is something I don't think most people realize they don't know how to do - I sure didn't, even though I have been through yoga and dance training. The book is not glamorous and not for coffee table reading. It's more the book you can throw into your suitcase or backpack and take with. It's a book for USE and it WORKS.I feel physically better than in many years, my hips and back and feet are improving daily. This is more or less an operating manual for the body's structure.Thank you so much to the authors for making this information available in an easily assimilatable form. :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
I have enjoyed the book.It is very informative. Will continue to use and enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, holistic approach
"The Pain-Free Back" is a comprehensive examination of back pain and what you can do about it.The authors discuss various symptoms and when you should be concerned that it might be something serious. This includes answering the very important question "When do you try to treat it yourself and when do you call a doctor?"5-0 out of 5 stars Recommend to men and women with back pain
I read this book to get ideas on how to stop back pain. While I'm not a proponent of natural or complementary therapies, these doctors convinced me that taking control of my lifestyle habits was the only way to end the pain. I even went as far as to start taking the natural dietary supplements glucosamine and SAM-e (recommended in the book). Other anti-inflammatory medications had caused a horrible stomach condition, and the natural supplements ease the pain and have allowed me to be more active and start walking again with my wife and kids. The review of causes of back pain was most helpful, and I began to question whether my primary care doctor had really diagnosed my pain correctly. A consultation with a rheumatologist confirmed that I had a form of arthritis common to men instead of pulled muscles. This book urged me to seek answers and reclaim an active life. Thank you. I must add that this book is not hype or sham. I'm cautious of books such as that. This book is highly credible by two renowned doctors and experts in their respective fields. I'm now getting the Pain-Free Arthritis book they wrote for more information on my back condition. Good luck. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book to Start With then Research More
Yes, I give 5 stars for the real novice in nutrition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, MUST Reading...Very well-documented
Excellent book from a physician who has researched this topic thoroughly. Many of the studies here are so informative and crucial to our health, yet you may not find them in other places. Finally a medical authority brave enough to tell the truth and the whole truth with all the science and studies well-documented. More than just a way to treat disease, this book helps you to prevent it in the first place. The chapter about the early human diet is worth its weight in gold. Must read this book...it may save your life, a wise purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reader-friendly book!
Literally anyone who eats will benefit greatly from reading Foods That Fight Pain. This reader-friendly book persuasively sorts out what foods can cause pain and what ones do not. Author Neal D. Barnard, M.D., has some ofthe late astronomer Carl Sagan's special gift for explaining complicatedand difficult issues in a lucid, lay-accessible manner. While the bookrecommends a vegan diet (free of animal products) as a good starting place,it documents that even normally terrific vegan foods such as citrus fruitsand tomatoes make the "dirty dozen" list of potential"trigger foods" for causing pain in somepeople. A samplesurprise: what you eat can cause back pain, because cholesterol- andfat-laden animal products can clog the arteries around yourspine. Thebook is supplemented by a tasty smorgasbord's worth of recipes and acredibility-boosting wealth of footnoted scientific references in the back. After devouring this book, you will probably want to try going vegan (ifyou aren't already). If you do, you will have full confidence that it's anabundantly healthy diet and just wish you had made the switch long ago. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Book not worth the money
I go in for surgery for my herniated disk in two days and nothing I read in this book informed me, encouraged me, or discouraged me from my decision. It's a very basic book if you know absolutely nothing about back pain, but as for any practical advice, there's very little. I especially looked for advice on exercises that are safe to do after surgery, but found none. What little info there is also seems very dated. I would have liked to see more than a tiny bit of info on types of surgery, etc. If the authors had spent their time on more research instead of ranting against managed health care, this might have been a decent and informative book. My advice: spend your money on another, more detailed and up-to-date book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those in pain
If you are going to read one book about your sciatica or low back pain, this should be it. The book is very well balanced and covers a lot of ground without getting bogged down in details. It covers the medical background of back problems without becoming a medical text. There are also hints on types of treatments available and how to make rational decisions about what treatment is best for your situation. There are many, many back books out there but this is one of the best written.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Lower Back Pain Diagnosis Tools Available
After 5 days of journaling my lower back pain signs and symptoms - I was able to use this book and diagnose my back injury as Spinal Stenosis - Due to a major disc herniated at the L4-L5 inside the vertebral canal. For me the diagnosis was not good - immediate surgery, but as I tore through this book with ease, cover to cover within a 24hr period, I can see how this book is a must buy for those who have back problems several times a year and have not diagnosed the true underlying cause of the pain.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars got me moving again
While no book could replace hands on instruction, this book comes close. This is the book that got me moving again after years of struggle with chronic back pain.Rather than a "one size fits all" approach, the book encourages one to review the evidence of your body and carefully approach the problem.I wonder where I would be if I hadn't run into this book a few years ago.Try it, it may save your back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
In 1970 (yes, I'm somewhat of an old fart) I suffered from an acute case of lower back pain. Luckily, Maggie's Back Book was then widely available. It didn't hurt that at that time Maggie also had her PBS show "Maggie and the Beautiful Machine", and thus was well known (certainly, here in Cambridge). I read it while in bed, on my back, and in pain. I decided to resist the doctor's recommendation for a spinal fusion operation. The injury healed over time, with the help of Maggie's good advice.5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book!
If you are having back problems, read this book. I read an earlier edition a long time ago and have followed the recommended exercises ever since. The result: very few episodes of serious back pain in 16 years. Maggie was one of the first people to publicize the importance of exercise for dealing with and preventing back pain.
